Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

The tree team have recently attended a very interesting and informative week in the woods of Cannock Chase where they received NPTC training by BASE Instructor, Ian Morgan.

The idea behind this latest training course was to improve and update on current skills, as well as to learn some of the latest in tree care and tree removal methods.  They were shown techniques that will not only improve on health & Safety but will also ensure that the highest possible standards are used when undertaking work.  This in turn will assist in completing jobs in the most effective manner…….all good news for our clients.

Everyone involved enjoyed the course very much and are now looking forward to putting their newly gained skills into practice.  The next training course for the tree team is booked in for May when they renew their first aid certificates on a three day course.

Pigeon Netting on a premier Leisure Centre in Solihull

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

The aim of the project was to prevent pigeons from gaining access to the plant area of the roof and also to prevent birds from roosting and nesting under the canopy.

The plant area was situated in a ‘well’ area on the roof.  A series of brackets were made to support both the net and a wire, which was attached to the leading edge of the roof ‘well’.  A further wire was also installed which ran through the brackets at a mid way point.  Areas of 30×15 metres and 10×7 metres were covered in total, by the use of 10×15 metre sections of pigeon netting.  Heavy duty net fixings were used as the net was going to be very exposed to the elements.  The whole area was cleaned and a large amount of pigeon guano was removed from the roof and taken out through the building.

The canopy area ran on 3 sides of the building and pigeons had been roosting and nesting on the decorative steel work.  The nets fitted at either end were 50 metres long and these were cut down into 3 sections for ease of installation.  All of this work was carried out from a cherry picker, which reached out over various obstacles including a swimming pool.

The netting was completed over a 10 day period and pigeons had to be removed from under the net each morning whilst work was in progress.  The netting at the front of the building was completed in the same way with the addition of anti-roosting spikes on the upright post to prevent roosting.

Pigeon Clean on Derelict Houses in Manchester

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

In April this year we carried out work for a construction company in Manchester.  The work required us to clean 5 derelict houses of pigeon droppings, where birds had been living for the past 20 years.

Pigeons had gained access to the properties through holes in the roof and loft spaces.  Top floor areas contained pigeon fouling up to 12″ deep, together with remains of birds and nesting materials.

The ceilings had to be pulled down and all debris removed followed by a disinfectant spray to make the area safe for contractors to carry out work.  The work was completed over a 10 day period.

Rodent Control Birmingham; A Guide for Homeowners

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

It’s horrible to find that your family home has become invaded by a swarm of rodents, and for your safety and comfort, any infestation needs to be removed quickly and without fuss. Here at PestBusters, we are able to provide a comprehensive guide to rodent control Birmingham, and recognising the presence of rodents, enabling you to remain calm in the knowledge that any unwelcome pests will soon be out of your home for good.

Often, there will be obvious tell-tale signs which give away the presence of rodents; for example, the sound of scuttling in a loft or basement. However, it’s not always so easy to track them down. Below, you’ll find some classic indicators of a rodent infestation, so that you can quickly identify their presence in future.

Rub Marks and Smears

Smears on your floors or walls could be a strong sign that rats or mice are living at your property. If you notice any small, dark rub marks, you may want to keep your eyes peeled.

Footprints and Tail Drags

Although this is a certain sign that you have rats or mice in your home, sometimes these footprints can be subtle. Try checking dustier areas, as footprints and tail drags can be more visible in these areas.

Gnaw Marks

Rodents love to gnaw on anything they can get their teeth around, so try looking around your house for any signs of this. Try checking the bottom of your doors, and skirting boards, as these are at an ideal height for rodents to chew on.

Droppings & Urine

As unpleasant as it may be, finding small droppings and urine almost definitely points towards the infestation of some kind of rodent.

Odour

Rats and mice carry a strong, musky odour, so if you notice a new and odd smell lingering around your property, rodents might be the cause.

These signs are never nice to discover, so don’t let them get away with it! Call in PestBusters for professional rodent control Birmingham and to help free your home from rodents, and get rid of the unpleasant consequences of rat and mice infestations for good.

Methods of Tree Pruning

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Read on as we take you through our top tips on tree pruning Warwick.

The following questions and answers aim to aid successful and safe tree pruning:

When is the best time to prune my tree?

It is best to wait until the later months of the year if your tree is deciduous. This is because during the spring time, your tree is likely to bleed sap if cut, by waiting until later in the year your tree will be inactive and much easier to prune. However, it is important to remember that some types of deciduous trees bleed sap for most of the year, so it is best to prune these in the summer after fresh growth has been given a chance to stabilise.

How do I prune a younger tree?

The first year is an important period of time for a young tree, and pruning is necessary to promote health and vitality. It is advised that during the first year, a third of the lowest growing branches are removed.

Can I prune the tree myself?

It is always best to leave extensive pruning and tree surgery up to the professionals, especially if pruning requires the use of a chainsaw or climbing up to get to higher branches.

What is the Best Bird Control Method?

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

With so many different methods of bird control available, how do you know which one is the best? The most appropriate solution is different for everyone, and will be dependent upon your own situation. Join us as we explore the various effective methods of bird control London which our experienced team at here at Total Bird Control are able to carry out. Let’s first look at the benefits which each different method is able to provide.

Bird Spikes

Birds can often pose a pesky problem should they keep landing on your building. Bird spikes can prevent this from happening, by providing an unpleasant surface for them to land on, thus deterring them from visiting your property in future.

This method is ideal for buildings which don’t have an even surface, as they are versatile enough to work around the provided area, despite whether it is smooth or uneven.

Netting

Made up of nylon netting, which is fixed to a pre-tensioned wire rope, any visiting birds will find themselves unable to pass through and uncomfortable if they decide to land or attempt to perch on the netting.

If you have a balcony or alcove which is commonly plagued with birds, then netting may well be the best option for you, as other methods are often hard to implement in these hard to reach areas.

Post & Wire

This system consists of a series of wires, strung between stainless steel posts. These provide a barrier to prevent birds landing underneath, as well as an uncomfortable place to perch.

This is a simple, yet highly effective method which can be easily installed on your building, and is excellent for those looking for a durable option, as the shock absorbing springs remain resilient to damage.

Bird Trapping

In difficult circumstances, where other methods may have failed or proved ineffective, we are able to plan and carry out a bird removal program to professionally and humanely trap any problem birds.

This is beneficial if no other methods have worked, and there is only a small number of birds which you wish to free your property from.

The best method for you will depend on your own circumstance and requirements, but we hope our useful overview has helped you to find the right method for you. To take advantage of our excellent bird control London methods, contact us today.
