Bird Proofing for Commercial Buildings in Solihull

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

When you are in charge of keeping a commercial property in sound condition, there are many aspects you will need to consider, from implementing security systems through to ensuring the aesthetic appeal of the building. Bird proofing Solihull is certainly a necessary measure for many reasons and here at Total Bird Control, we are on hand to discuss the many methods of keeping birds away whilst explaining why it is imperative such measures are undertaken.

A commercial property can often suffer from the damage that birds can cause, especially when constructed in built-up locations such as town and city centres. Not only can their droppings be corrosive to the property’s exterior, birds are also known to spread a host of diseases. It is because of this that bird proofing is so important; continue on as we explore the different kinds of bird proofing available.

To stop birds roosting at your commercial property, spikes are widely regarded as an effective method as they stick outwards and upwards to make an uncomfortable landing platform for birds, encouraging them to roost elsewhere. The spikes are affixed to the building which can cause an eyesore to passers-by; however we are very aware of this and strive to make them as inconspicuous as possible.

Tension wires together with posts provide a barrier between your property and the birds; therefore they are another way of effectively reducing the amount of birds that roost at your commercial premises and cause damage to the area.

From solicitors Solihull to bars, restaurants and large purpose built offices, ensure your commercial property remains free from the damage that birds can cause by calling our professional team for expert advice and effective deterrents.

Pigeon Netting and Clearance of Pigeon Guano on a Dovecote

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

In 2011 we were asked to stop pigeons entering the dovecote and to clear pigeon guano from inside.  The top of the dovecote was proofed using pigeon netting.  To reach the top of the dovecote we had to use a lorry mounted access platform.

Pigeon Netting – Wolverhampton Bus Station

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

In March 2011 we were asked to carry out pigeon proofing on the new bus station in Wolverhampton.  The bus station building had been completed and consisted of 3 pods which were approximately 100 metres in length by 10 metres wide.  Our client soon realised that pigeons would be able to enter the bus stations via gaps between the glass panels and the roof section, (which varied between approximately 6 – 24 inches), this would result in pigeons roosting within the building.

We installed pigeon netting to cover the gaps thereby preventing pigeons from gaining access to the building.

Sparrow Netting on Grade 2 Listed Building in Bristol

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Our customer was carrying out refurbishment work on this building when we were approached and asked to replace the old netting with new sparrow netting.  We were able to use most of the old fixings but had to re-wire and then attach the new netting.

As you can see from the picture, the netting was very discreet and therefore did not comprise the look of the building.

Pigeon Netting on New Canal Bridge in Wolverhampton

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

A new foot bridge was erected over the Wolverhampton canal last year.  The construction company asked us to stop pigeons gaining access to the pipework and girders under the bridge.  To do this we installed pigeon netting using girder brackets and wire systems.  This was not as straight forward as some jobs, as working above the canal, off a large mobile elevated platform, with barges still having access to the water below caused some health and safety issues that we had to overcome.

What Bird Control Methods Are Available To Me?

Friday, January 6th, 2012

Keeping costs down when running a business will be an important factor and damage to your property isn’t something you will want to pay out for. Unfortunately many business owners are incurring costs to their buildings because of nuisance birds, however here at Total Bird Control we have a variety of techniques that we use to help decrease the presence of unwanted birds around your property. All of our methods for bird control Solihull are designed to be cost effective and will provide you with a safe solution to eradicating these pests.

There are various risks to leaving bird problems untreated including health problems associated with certain birds, infestation of other pests and accidents that may happen when droppings land on wet concrete causing it to be slippery.

One of the methods we can use to help protect your building against birds is spikes. These are a great bird proofing solution as they are made from metal with plastic basing and will prevent birds from landing on them. Whether you are in a temporary modular building or a high rise tower, we are able to install this bird control method in a variety of sizes and strengths to suit your individual needs.

Another technique that we can install is posts and wire. These are similar to spikes in that birds will find them uncomfortable whilst also stopping them from landing on the surface of where they are installed. This method sees a number of posts strung together with high tension wire which will deter birds and can be easily fixed to the roof of your building.

All of the methods we use at Total Bird Control are designed to be as humane as possible whilst offering comprehensive protection against the damage birds can make. We also offer a service for bird trapping if needed in extreme cases; this is carried out by our professionals and complies with all pest and bird control laws.

If you are in need of bird control Solihull, contact us at Total Bird Control where we can discuss what the best solution will be for you. For more information, feel free to browse our website or call one of our team today on 0121 695 9076.

GARDENBUSTERS NPTC TRAINING

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

The tree team have recently attended a very interesting and informative week in the woods of Cannock Chase where they received NPTC training by BASE Instructor, Ian Morgan.

The idea behind this latest training course was to improve and update on current skills, as well as to learn some of the latest in tree care and tree removal methods.  They were shown techniques that will not only improve on health & Safety but will also ensure that the highest possible standards are used when undertaking work.  This in turn will assist in completing jobs in the most effective manner…….all good news for our clients.

Everyone involved enjoyed the course very much and are now looking forward to putting their newly gained skills into practice.  The next training course for the tree team is booked in for May when they renew their first aid certificates on a three day course.

Pigeon Netting on a premier Leisure Centre in Solihull

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

The aim of the project was to prevent pigeons from gaining access to the plant area of the roof and also to prevent birds from roosting and nesting under the canopy.

The plant area was situated in a ‘well’ area on the roof.  A series of brackets were made to support both the net and a wire, which was attached to the leading edge of the roof ‘well’.  A further wire was also installed which ran through the brackets at a mid way point.  Areas of 30×15 metres and 10×7 metres were covered in total, by the use of 10×15 metre sections of pigeon netting.  Heavy duty net fixings were used as the net was going to be very exposed to the elements.  The whole area was cleaned and a large amount of pigeon guano was removed from the roof and taken out through the building.

The canopy area ran on 3 sides of the building and pigeons had been roosting and nesting on the decorative steel work.  The nets fitted at either end were 50 metres long and these were cut down into 3 sections for ease of installation.  All of this work was carried out from a cherry picker, which reached out over various obstacles including a swimming pool.

The netting was completed over a 10 day period and pigeons had to be removed from under the net each morning whilst work was in progress.  The netting at the front of the building was completed in the same way with the addition of anti-roosting spikes on the upright post to prevent roosting.
